Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet handsome Bentley, a pure bred Maltese who is between 7-8 years old and weighs 8 pounds. He came to us with several other dogs from a hoarding situation. He has really come a long way in the short time he has been in our rescue. We are very proud of him. Bentley is heartworm negative, and microchipped. He is a bright, happy, playful pup whose favorite place is curled on your lap. He is a wonderful companion pet, gentle and affectionate. Bentley loves to eat, and he is also learning to walk on a lead. He is good with other dogs. Bentley is great with children as well. He has not been tested with cats. Bentley is working on his ... (Read More)housebreaking skills and will need a family that will be patient with him and continue his training. We think that he would be happiest in a home with another dog that could show him the ropes and help build his confidence (and play with him). If you'd like to make sweet Bentley a member of your family, please complete an application for this handsome boy. (Less)

Animal ID: 18-024Jasper (male)

Maltese Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Sweet Jasper Doolittle is a 3-1/2 year old, 15 pound Maltese/Miniature Schnauzer mix! He is being fostered in Odessa, FL. UPDATED BIO 02/18/2017: . Jasper is a 'rare' Maltese/Miniature Schnauzer Mix, referred to as a Malzer. Like the Yorkshire Terrier, the Malzer is known for their cute looks and funny disposition. Jasper has been in his foster home for a little over a week now and is doing amazingly well. His foster parents love him and he loves them back as well. He continues to be playful and loving. His parents think he is such a sweetheart as he always rolls over for belly rubs when approached. Sweet. Jasper is totally house-trained ... (Read More)and will soon have his vaccinations updated and will be neutered. Jasper's perfect home would have a fenced-in yard, but this is not a deal breaker, just something that would be ideal for him to run and play and get out all his puppy energy. Because he is such a young and active little boy, the perfect home would be one that is very active, and include children 8-10 years old or older for playmates. Jasper would be okay as an only dog, but perhaps another dog close to his age and size would be wonderful to have for a doggie companion. Jasper's foster mom feels that he wouldn't do well in a home where he was left alone for over 3-4 hours, so please take this into consideration if you apply to adopt this preciouS boy. INITIAL BIO 02/09/2018: Jasper Doolittle just came into rescue today. He was surrendered by his owner who was no longer able to care for him. Jasper is a 'rare' Maltese/Miniature Schnauzer Mix, referred to as a Malzer. Like the Yorkshire Terrier, the Malzer is known for their cute looks and funny disposition. They are docile, playful and loving. Jasper is a very sweet, adorable and happy boy who will make a lovely family dog for the right family. He rode well in the car while riding to his new foster home. By the way, his foster parents fell in love with him immediately. Jasper's surrendering owner said that he is totally house-trained - what a smart boy! He will be seen by the vet soon to have his vaccinations updated and will then be scheduled for a neuter and potentially a dental. After that, he will be ready to go to his forever home. Please check back soon for updates on this handsome boy. (Less)

Animal ID: DebbieFreckles (male)

Maltese Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet handsome Freckles, a 5 year old Maltese mix who weighs about 9 pounds. Freckles and his brother Fred were owner surrendered to a local shelter. They were both terrified in that environment and wouldn't let anyone near them. They gave us a call and our President and VP went down and sat with them (with gloves on and a blanket), in hopes of calming them down enough to be able to give them their freedom ride. It was quite a struggle, but they didn't give up on them because they knew it was simply fear aggression. Freckles is heartworm negative, housebroken, and microchipped. He is good with most dogs, but has not been tested with cats. ... (Read More) Because Freckles still has some fear, he would not be suitable in a home with children. Freckles can sometimes growl at people or dogs he doesn't know and we feel that is due to fear, not because he is aggressive. His new family will need to be aware of this, and continue working with him on building confidence and trust so that he feels secure. Once he trusts you and loves you he is a very loyal companion. He is a very sweet boy who really deserves to have a loving family and home of his own. If you feel that Freckles would be a good fit for your family, please submit an application. (Less)

Animal ID: 17-231Lola (female)

Maltese    Age: Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Blind

Sweet Lola is a little Maltese mix. Lola is 9 years old and weighs 13 pounds. She is being fostered in St. Augustine PLEASE NOTE: At this time, Lola can only be adopted in the Jacksonville, FL area since she will need to have follow-up visits with the doggie ophthalmologist for six (6) months after her surgery. UPDATED BIO 02/23/2018: Sweet Lola has been in UYR for 2-1/2 months now. She came into our group almost completely blind from cataracts, and with the generous and amazing support of our wonderful donors, we raised enough money for her to have cataract surgery on one eye. Her surgery was on 01/30 and although there were a few ... (Read More)bumps along the road, Lola is doing great. She recently saw the doggie eye doctor and he was very pleased with the results of the surgery. She was cleared to go without the dreaded e-collar, which not only pleased Lola very much, but made her foster mom and dad very happy as well. The first thing upon arriving home from the eye doctor, Lola was put into the sink and had a much-needed bath, and then a nice walk. She still needs several eye meds several times a day, but not as often as before. She will continue to make weekly trips to the eye doctor for now to ensure that all is well. Lola will see the local vet in several weeks to have her thyroid values checked again to ensure that they are closer to normal. Lola is such a happy girl now that she has vision again. She enjoys traveling in the car, which is good since there have been quite a few road trips back and forth to the vet. She will fall asleep in the car and not awaken until she is at her destination. What a sweet girlie! Stay tuned for more updates on this adorable little girl. UPDATED BIO 02/08/2018: Lola had her much-anticipated cataract surgery on one eye on January 30th and is doing very well. She will go back to see the doggie ophthalmologist in a few days for a re-check; she now enjoys going for car rides. Lola can see better each and every day and it's amazing for her foster mom to witness this. She is tolerating the 4 rounds of 6 different eye meds and 2 pills she must have every day since she knows she will get a treat when finished, so she is a little trooper. She is wagging her tail more each day and becoming much more active. Lola is now going for walks and asking to go outside each day. She is always following her foster mom around and is very curious about her surroundings, especially now that she can see the squirrels in the yard and enjoys barking at them now that she can see them. It's so amazing to see the progress in sweet Lola as her vision in one eye gets clearer each day. Lola and her foster parents want to thank each and every person who donated towards her cataract surgery so that she could see again. She still has to see the eye specialist every week to ensure all is well, and these visits and the eye drops she must have are expensive. UYR is only able to afford cataract surgery and the follow-up visit if donations are made to pay for this, so any donation is truly appreciated. Thank you again for our generous donors! UPDATED BIO 01/11/2018: Lola has been seen by the doggie ophthalmologist in Jacksonville, FL. He agrees with the ophthalmologist that she previously saw - he also feels that sight can be restored in Lola's left eye. She will have her surgery on Jan 30th. It is expected that she will have vision within 3-7 days post-surgery. Most of the funds have been raised so that Lola will have the opportunity to see again - THANK YOU to all the generous donors that helped to make this happen. We are all anxious to know that this sweet little princess will have her sight restored. Even though Lola knew something was up when she was taken to the specialist's office, she sat down like a sweet little girl and waited for her turn to see the doctor. Even though there were other animals coming in and out, Lola continued to be patient - waiting for her turn. She is currently on a regimen of twice-daily drops until her surgery, and of course, there will be several additional drops after her surgery. Lola is such a sweetheart and doesn't mind all the drops. Lola has some difficult days ahead of her, but with lots of prayers and the help of our wonderful donors, Lola will be able to see again.
