Rescue Me ID: 14-10-17-00338Simon (male)
Simon is a 14 year old cutie whose owner became ill and could no longer take care of him. Simon is so thankful to have people love him and want to be with him. He is a quiet and calm little guy and is completely house trained. He does have arthritic hips, and at times, his hips do give out on him, but that's okay because he LOVES to be carried around and held; he can sleep quite a bit, but also still loves to play. Adopting a senior dog and giving them a home filled with love in their final months or years is one of the most rewarding experiences. Simon is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, wormed and heartworm checked (negative). Apply on-line at duboiscountyhumane.org/apply.html (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-09-11-00291Brody (male)
Brody is a wonderful friend and companion. Unfortunately for me, life circumstances dictate that I must find a new home for my friend. I brought Brody back home with me four years ago before beginning graduate school. My flexible school schedule allowed me to remain Brody's primary caregiver. However, I am now working full time and my mother is unable to be Brody's primary caregiver. Also, I will be relocating to Chicago for work next month and will be unable to bring Brody with me. I will miss him and want him to live in a great home. About Brody: Like many small, personable dogs, Brody likes lots of attention. Although Brody has always been very good around other animals, he has exhibited signs of frustration and acting out when I am giving extra attention to my other dog, a Yorkshire terrier. If you have or have had small dogs you understand this, and whether Brody would be a good fit given your circumstances and tastes will be something for you to decide. Brody has a managed adrenal condition called Cushings syndrome. The condition means that Brody's body produces excess cortisol, a stress hormone. We have been successfully treating Brody's Cushings with the drug Trilostane, brand name Vetoryl, as well as two herbal supplements. Brody's condition is well managed. He tolerates the medication, of which he is on the smallest dose, very well. No diarrea or vomitting. The Cushing's-specific herbs probably help. I will provide two almost full bottles of Brody's herbal drops to the adopter. And while it will be up to you to decide whether you want to continue with the herbs, Brody must always have Trilostane. I purchase Brody's Trilostane online with my vet's prescription. The monthly cost is approximately $60. This is a tough, but necessary decision because Brody still has many years of quality companionship to give. While I am disappointed about losing Brody, work is work, and I have to prioritize. Please do not hesitate to contact me personally with questions or to schedule a meeting. Thanks for taking the time to learn a little bit about Brody! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-09-04-00565Sophie (female)
Sophie is a wonderful dog but is in need of a home where she can get the attention she deserves. We are not home during the day and she does not like to be left alone. She seems to purposely urinate to show us she is not happy. We want her to be happy and have an owner that is devoted to her well being.

Rescue Me ID: 14-05-08-00278Matty (male)
Matty - 5 year old maltese 6 lbs great with dogs/some people/no kids working on potty training--neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations Matty has a delicate, slim build with long limbs which makes him quite the dancer! Matty, who likely came from a puppy mill, is shy and tentative with strangers and in new situations; he relies on dog pals to show him that people and places are safe. So Matty must have a doggie companion in his forever home. Matty thrives on affection and he bonds very closely with his special person; he likes to be held close and cuddled and babied. He gets along fabulously with other dogs; he assimilates quickly and is accepted readily by the canines he meets. Because of his small size and timidity, he will not be placed in a home with children under 12 years. He will do best in a quiet home and would be happiest if he wasn't left alone without his people for long periods of time. Since he not been well cared for in the past, he especially deserves a home in which he will know the special care, companionship and love which he previously lacked. Matty is working hard on learning to 'take care of business' in appropriate places. Adoption fee - $150. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 13-02-15-00334Sebastien (male)
Sebastien: 2 year old maltese / chinese crested mix good with dogs/people/kids/cats Sebastien will require a home with a doggie playmate or regular visits to doggie daycare. One of his favorite things in this world is playing with other dogs! 'Sebastien is the epitome of joie de vivre ... enthusiasm ... high spirits ... devil-may-care attitude! His love of life and enjoyment of all it brings is infectious; you won't be able to resist laughing at his hi-jinx and antics! His favorite pastime is playing ... and frolicking ... and romping ... and cavorting; give him a spirited playmate (big or small, it doesn't matter) and Sebastien will be entertained for hours! But after he's had his fill of horsing around, he looks forward to his snuggle time when he gets the attention and affection he craves from his special person. He knows that his shiny eyes and appealing underbite are impossible to resist and can easily charm all the ladies! He's extremely smart and eager to please; when he gazes at you, you can't help but think he's about to say the most profound thing! He's learning basic commands such as sit, down and stay; our favorite, however, is his 'jump for joy' trick; wait until you see it! Sebastien is potty-trained and always ready to go for walks or car rides since he relishes new experiences. If you'd like to adopt this happy-go-lucky fellow, please let us know! His adoption fee is $250; he's neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations.' (Less)
