For Adoption: 17 pound Maltese/Dachshund mix 3 years old We adopted Buddy, a maltese/dachshund mix in December from a foster that was affiliated with what I now know is an disreputable rescue group. Buddy is about 3 years old(as per our vet) and is fear aggressive, which we were not told and only discovered after he settled in and started acting like his 'normal' self. We have had him neutered, fully vetted, we have had private trainers in to help us and done our utmost to help correct his behavior. He is wonderful to the members of our household, including me, my husband and our 2 and 5 year old children. He has NEVER shown any of us ANY ... (Read More)aggression. However he barks and lunges at visitors to our home, with work we have desensitized him to the point that he can be out among guests with supervision, but he does bark seemingly out of nowhere, even at people he was fine with 5 minutes earlier. Much more challenging is his fear aggression outside on the leash. He barks and lunges at anything that moves. We have seen some improvement with other dogs in the neighborhood and even cars, but he continues to be aggressive with people, particularly when it is dark out. He bit my neighbors thumb recently, after she disregarded my husbands warning to not go near him. We are now at the point after spending thousands of dollars in the last 4 months that we realize he has more challenging issues than we can handle. We have to keep him crated while we are at work because my babysitter is afraid of him and walking him or having him outside at all is a stressful, as we live on a cul de sac with many children and people outside constantly. Returning him to the foster or rescue we got him from is out of the question, they lied to us completely and I would not want to risk them doing it again to another family. He is well behaved at the vet and at the groomers. We have taken him to doggy daycare purely for dog socialization and he was scared but not aggressive. He deserves a chance with someone that has the time and knowledge to help him. We have crate trained him, he is beautifully housebroken and learned sit, come, and down very quickly. He has Maltese hair, so is 'hypoallergetic' with little to no shedding. He loves to be pet, anywhere on his body and is easily bathed and ears cleaned, etc. He has absolutely no food or toy aggression. We live in Montrose and if you are interested in meeting Buddy to see if you would be a good fit we would like to meet you. (Less)

Marie Antoinette was one of many royals and famous people to have owned Maltese.
