Rescue Me ID: 17-09-23-00044opie (male)

Maltese Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

No Toddlers Please. Opie was born about February 10, 2015 and weighs about 15 lbs. He came to us as a Maltese, but we are throwing a bit of Poodle in since his hair has a loose curl to it. He is a really cute little guy that is here because he doesn't care tor the toddling grandchild. He is good with dogs and cats alike. He is house trained, but we always like to warn humans that sometimes these small dogs benefit from having a potty floor pad handy. He is fine on leash and will hang with your when you are outside doing your chores. Here is a note from his previous mom: 'My little Opie is a unique little dog. He has a wonderful ... (Read More)personality but doesn't like to be grabbed at. The reason why I have to give him away is because my grandson lives with us and he tries to grab and pull his hair and Opie will nip/bite at him. He likes to sleep at night with you. The only thing he does that is odd with other animals is that he bites their whiskers and has a tendency to clean their teeth. He has a tendency to itch because I think sometimes he is nervous.' So, now we are going to discuss the itching and some hair loss on his back near his tail. When acquired the vet recommended a better food than Alpo. So the next time they visited he was on Come and Get It. These foods are like you eating at a fast food burger joint everyday - just imagine what that would do to your hair, skin, and body!!!! Going forward he should have a food with NO red food coloring as many dogs have allergies to that and no dyes at all with be even better. He should also be put on a grain free diet such as one of the Blue Buffalo varieties. He's little, it's not like it's going to cost a ton to feed him no matter how pricey the food. If you give up a couple of those fun coffees a week and make your own at home that would be plenty to feed this little guy. He's a nice little dog that is going to find just the right home this time around. The Adoption Fee for this dog is $300.00. (Less)

[Read About Natural Incontinence Care] Winnie is a small dog who was been through way too much! She spent the first 4 years of her life in a puppy mill, and then ended up at an animal shelter where she stayed long enough to become their longest resident. Finally a family came along to take her in, but her hard life had already taken a big toll on her little body. Now, seven years after being adopted, her family is looking to find her a new home because their lifestyle has changed and they do not have time for her anymore. Her family does not have much time, and we are hoping to find her a home quickly as they have already considered euthanasia if no home can be found. ... (Read More)Winnie is a special needs dog because she has such severe anxiety as a holdover from the days, months, years that she suffered terrible abuse. However, she does not have a mean bone in her body and just wants a loving home to call her own! We are happy to discuss Winnie's special needs in more detail, so please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions! (Less)
